FOOD IN BALTIMORE


Baltimore is located along the Chesapeake Bays north shore, and the delicious crustacean is loved by local and visitor . The bay is the Native American phrase for Great Shellfish Bay. There is a blue crab that is really popular and the local restaurants would have crustaceans as the main staple diet. They would be wrapped in fajitas, stuffed inside Chinese dumplings and sprinkled over linguine to please the palate.

The Crab cake is the most popular dish in Baltimore and most of the bars and restaurants in Baltimore will serve up some great delightful crabmeat patties.

Two great crab houses are Phillips Restaurant and also Obryckis Restaurant, and both are located near the inner Harbour. The South Harbour Tavern is also a real favourite and is located just across from the Inner Harbour on Federal Hill. In Hampden, you will find Mamies Cafe.
There is one thing to remember when heading out to dine on crab cakes. Crabs are a seasonal delicacy and are in short supply. The price varies even during the prime crabbing months from June to September. There are three grades of crabmeat. The Jumbo Lump, the Backfin and the Special. They tell the size of the pieces from large to small. They all have the same flavour, but the crab cakes made with Jumbo Lump are usually more expensive than the other grades.
More culinary treats are awaiting you around the Inner Harbour. This is Baltimore's showpiece. There are lots of tourist attractions around here, and there is ample amount of restaurants to keep you dining out for weeks on end. Places like Victors Cafe will serve you up a lovely Italian style dish, while the City Lights Restaurant will offer up some great seafood dishes. Hamptons restaurant is considered to be one of the finest restaurants in Baltimore.

The Brewers Art will offer its diners some creative German style cuisine. The Silk Road restaurant will thrill you with is Afghani cuisine and the Akbar serves great curries.
